ATALM selected Spokane, Washington as its 2026 location to honor the deep cultural and historical legacy of the Spokane Tribe of Indians and the broader Inland Northwest (Plateau) region. Situated on the banks of the Spokane River, the city serves as a hub for both urban Native communities and surrounding Tribal Nations, including the Coeur d’Alene and Colville Confederated Tribes.
This setting provides the ideal backdrop for discussions on the future for cultural heritage. The conference will emphasize the crucial work of regional institutions and culture bearers who are advancing the ethical stewardship of cultural assets and strengthening support for Native artists. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore Spokane’s revitalized downtown area, including the historic Riverfront Park and the scenic Spokane River, which offers a powerful connection to the natural environment and history of the Plateau.
