The Caring for Indigenous Collections Institute is a three-day, in-depth learning experience designed to strengthen the capacity of those responsible for the care and stewardship of Indigenous collections. Held in conjunction with the 2025 International Conference of Indigenous Archives, Libraries, and Museums, the Institute provides participants with practical, hands-on training in preventive conservation, collections management, culturally appropriate care practices, and community-centered stewardship. Through immersive workshops and collaborative learning, participants will gain essential, marketable skills that support the long-term preservation and respectful handling of cultural materials. The Institute is especially valuable for those working in tribal museums, archives, cultural centers, or academic programs focused on collections care.
The Institute takes place in two locations within Harrah’s Cherokee Casino. There is a 10-15 minute indoor walk from the primary convention space.

- Request financial support. ATALM is offering registration and lodging scholarships for individuals who demonstrate financial need and a commitment to the long-term care of Indigenous collections. Applications were due by July 15.
