About the Institute
Programs begin on Sunday, June 5 with optional Cultural Tours to Mesa Verde National Park, Cascade Wye, or Pagosa Springs. These events require an additional registration fee. The Institute begins on Monday, June 6 with concurrent sessions held in the morning and afternoon at the Sky Ute Conference Center. On Tuesday, June 7 and Wednesday, June 8, hands-on and/or interactive Workshops are scheduled at three locations: The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College, the Southern Ute Museum and Cultural Center, and the Sky Ute Conference center. You may choose one workshop per day on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This three day institute focuses on challenges that are specific to the care of indigenous materials. You may choose from more than twenty sessions that are designed to provide you with practical skills that you can take home and apply to your collections. The first day is devoted to 75 and 90-minute concurrent sessions that are intended to provide you with the most current information related to the field. The last two days of the workshops are devoted to hands-on and interactive workshops that will help you improve the way you protect, preserve, and present indigenous materials.
Who Should Attend?
The Institute is designed to serve the needs of tribal library, archive, and museum staff and volunteers, as well as staff and volunteers of non-tribal organizations that wish to provide the best possible stewardship for indigenous materials in their collections.
